Merino  is a wonder fibre that has evolved over a million years and now helps to create the perfect sleeping environment for young children via its use in sleeping bags, wraps and blankets.

The main benefit of merino is its incomparable ability to maintain a comfortable micro-climate between body and bedding. Unlike synthetics, Merino breathes and controls moisture meaning that it has the natural ability to respond to changes in temperature. This unique garment property helps keep young ones cool when it is hot and warm when it is cold. Merino has numerous natural attributes that make it one of the most comfortable of fabrics to wear.

It breathes and controls moisture
A unique feature of merino is that it absorbs perspiration from the skin and releases it into the air.  This means your child will never feel ‘clammy’ since humidity between skin and garment is lowered.

It controls temperature … no need for TOG rating!
Merino fibre actively regulates temperature, protecting your baby from extremes because it keeps him warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s hot.  For this reason it does not require a tog rating.  Because merino is 100% natural, there is no need for tog rating, unlike products made from synthetic fibres.

It improves sleep routines
Medical studies have proven that merino improves the sleep patterns of babies and infants. At the Cambridge Maternity Hospital in 1979, Scott and Richards revealed that babies sleeping on merino settled more quickly, cried less, fed better and gained weight faster.

Premature and low weight babies
The same medical studies investigating the effect of merino on premature and low birth weight babies found that they gained an extra 10g a day compared to babies that weren’t sleeping on merino.

Swaddling with merino
A number of studies have shown that swaddling babies tends to reduce the likelihood of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Since overheating has been identified as a key factor in many cases of SIDS there is a strong case for using merino because of its previously noted ability to regulate heat and humidity.

It reduces skin allergies
Superfine merino is soft and silky and does not itch your baby’s skin.  Because it has the ability to respond to changes in temperature, it’s amongst the most comfortable material you can put your baby in.  Merino has been linked with a lower incidence of skin allergies.

It’s comfortable and easy to care for
Super fine merino feels soft and silky next to your baby’s skin. Our merino is a finespun fabric, making it soft and comfortable. It also has a natural elastic property, meaning our garments fit snugly every time.

Fire resistant

Merino contains natural fire retardants, further helping safe guard children’s health.

One of my daughter’s first milestone’s was when she officialy made it OFF the “weight for age” graph hitting over 9 kilos at just 5 months old! This was due to her LOVE for milk - sculling 6 bottles a day!!. (every 2 hours).as well as solids! :) The midwife was never concerned as she would lose the weight as she got older. Luckily she was correct and it was amazing to see her slowly, slowly make it back onto the graph as she got older!

At 2 years old, she is now in the healthy weight range and bubbly and beautiful as ever! Above are photos of her at 5 months and below a photo of her today! :) As you can see in the last photo, she still loves to eat; she is cooking ‘pebble soup’ and tasting it too to make sure it is just right! Could this be the next Masterchef!? :)

Thanks Catherine for sharing your wee one’s milestone - you  were one of our three winners drawn and have won yourselves a pair of Skeanie booties :)

We think our little girl is very clever, not to mention beautiful, as every parent does. She is 15 months and says many words, her favourite being ‘Daddy’. This of course doesn’t go down too well, when it’s ‘Mummy’ who gets up at night, ‘Mummy’ who changes the pooey nappies, ‘Mummy’ who cleans the nose, ‘Mummy’ who does the hair.. the list goes on. So each day i say to Abbey, say ‘Mummy’, she giggles back and says ‘Daddy’. It was funny for awhile however inside my heart was busting to hear her call to me. Then today i made sure she was looking at me and watching my lips, i said come on darling say ‘Mummy’, it was music to my ears when her big brown eyes looked at me and her little lips said ‘Mummy’. Yay! Makes all the work worth it a million times over. Bless you Abbey. Mummy loves you, to the moon.. and back x

Thanks Tammy for sharing your wee one’s milestone - you  were one of our three winners drawn and have won yourselves a pair of Skeanie booties :)

I am currently 27 weeks +2 days pregnant with baby number 3, a precious baby boy. These milestones for us are some of the biggest we can overcome in our lifetime.

One of our biggest milestone to date was met just a few weeks ago when I was 25weeks and 5 days pregnant. I had to have an ultrasound to check the growth of our baby boy due to pregnancy complications in my previous pregnancy. I suffered from pregnancy induced complications Pre Eclampsia and HELLP Syndrome.  This was life threatening for both my daughter and myself and this forced the delivery of Airlie Fae at just 27weeks and 5 days gestation 4 years ago.

Everyone knows how proud you feel when you watch your baby on the ultrasound and hear that little heart beating. A very very proud moment was when the doctor informed us that our baby boy was currently 922grams at 25weeks and 2 days gestation. This is a huge milestone for us as his sister Airlie was born at 27 weeks 5 days gestation weighing just 861grams and while in NICU lost weight and weigh only 792grams. To know that our baby boy is already heavier then his sister is such a relief as this gives our baby boy better chances if he is born early like his sister.

Our next milestone to meet is just a few days away with at 27weeks 5 days birth milestone of his sister. Currently I am not experiencing any high blood pressure or other complications that go along with PE and HELLPS so fingers crossed our little boy keeps growing and can be born as close as possible to Full Term.

Thank you Fiona for sharing your milestone - you  were one of our three winners drawn and have won yourselves a pair of Skeanie booties :). Note Fiona has since emailed us and shared she has just had another ultrasound (the next milestone mentioned above) and all is going well which is great news.
