Who amongst us, when expecting their first baby, didn’t sit and dream of the perfect nursery? The interiors magazine worthy, cosy and safe place where your precious baby would sleep peacefully in their cot, or cuddled in your arms as you rocked them in the dim light. Thankfully, there has been a shift in the past few years in the design of nursery furniture, meaning less of the chunky cots and change tables, sea of pastel linens and wall paper borders of licensed cartoon characters!
Your baby’s room in the beginning, is really all about your comfort, and creating a relaxing space for tending to the many needs of your newborn. It pays to invest in statement pieces that will adapt with your growing child, while still reflecting your sense of style, and complimenting the décor of the rest of your home. Created with a distinctly modern aesthetic, the Ubabub range is designer furniture for your baby. Warm woods team with innovative clear, acrylic sides for the constant gazing that new parents are helpless to resist. The 50’s inspired Nifty range is so gorgeous, it may well distract the compliments visitors should be lavishing on your child!
Who’s behind this streamlined, modern and oh so coveted nursery brand? Melbourne parents Natasha and Daniel Dumais. Natasha shares with us her style secrets and tips for setting up your baby’s room, in this designer profile:
1. My personal style is……..
I think my style is modern eclectic. It combines inspiration from
Danish and Scandanavian design, the mid-century modern era and a mix of other sources that reflect my love for colour, print & pattern and illustration.
2. Things I can't live without………………
I couldn’t live without my family! And on a much lesser note summer, lots of natural light, my iphone, the internet (how did we ever live without this??!) and come the weekend, some good music and a well earned glass of wine.
3. What lead to the creation of Ubabub?
My husband Daniel and I were inspired to create our own modern nursery furniture brand when disheartened with the lack of furniture within this space to meet our modern tastes. We were drawn to the area of nursery products after discovering that our first daughter Bianca was very active in her cot and would often wake up with her limbs caught in the bars. This encouraged us to design a cot that offered an appealing and simple solution to prevent entrapment of little limbs whilst providing parents with greater visibility and security.
4. Best piece of design advice for setting up a nursery……
Start with a hero piece, like a beautiful cot (hint, hint!) or beautiful pendant or an inspiring piece of art and build around it. Ensure your nursery set-up is as practical as it is beautiful. Include plenty of good storage and have your change table set-up locked and loaded for bubs arrival. Also, consider installing a dimmer on the lights in your nursery – this is a really nice thing to use in the evenings to signal to bubs that bedtime is near!
5. In 10 years time I would love…………
For Ubabub to be an even bigger and better global brand!
I’d also love to take my beautiful daughters on an extended family holiday to the South of France – gosh in ten years time they’ll be 14 and 12 – now that is mind-blowing!!
